TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Spider-Man: Brand New Day has delivered a historic global box office debut, earning an estimated US$927 million worldwide from around 90,000 screens, making it the second-biggest opening in film history.
The Marvel superhero film trails only Avengers: Endgame, which holds the record with a reported US$1.22 billion global opening, while surpassing Avengers: Infinity War, which debuted with around US$640.5 million in 2018.
Sony Pictures had initially projected a worldwide opening of about US$425 million for Brand New Day, but the film more than doubled expectations.
The movie is expected to surpass the US$1 billion milestone within days and is projected to become the highest-grossing film of 2026, overtaking Disney and Pixar’s Toy Story 5, which has earned around US$1.065 billion globally.

The latest installment became the biggest global opening in the history of the Spider-Man franchise, easily surpassing Spider-Man: No Way Home, which previously held the record with a US$600.5 million debut.
The film also delivered record openings for several key figures behind the project, including star Tom Holland, actress Zendaya, director Destin Daniel Cretton, and Sony Pictures.
International markets contributed significantly to the film’s success, generating around US$572 million from 66 overseas markets and 73,500 screens.
The strong performance was driven by broad audience interest, with daily box office holds reportedly outperforming No Way Home.

Brand New Day broke opening records across several major markets, including:

The film also achieved record-breaking performances across parts of Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and Africa.
In Japan, the movie successfully attracted younger audiences, particularly viewers aged 20 to 40, a demographic that has historically been difficult for Hollywood productions to reach in the market.
In South Korea, Brand New Day received a strong audience response, with a reported Naver audience score of 91, while its first-day screening occupancy reached 53 percent, setting a record for the market.
Premium Formats Boost Opening Numbers
The film also performed strongly in premium cinema formats. IMAX screenings in China, Japan, and South Korea generated around US$23 million, while the global IMAX network recorded one of its biggest weekends ever.
Meanwhile, 4DX and ScreenX screenings delivered a combined record of US$31 million worldwide from 1,111 screens.
Brand New Day was filmed specifically for ScreenX, marking the first collaboration between CJ 4DPLEX and filmmakers from production through theatrical release.
Tom Holland Dominates 2026 Box Office
The success of Spider-Man: Brand New Day adds another major global achievement for Tom Holland and Zendaya, who are also leading stars of Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey.
While Brand New Day dominated the weekend box office, The Odyssey continued its strong theatrical run, reaching a global cumulative gross of around US$911 million.
Nolan’s latest film earned US$136.2 million globally in its third weekend, including US$51 million domestically and US$85.2 million internationally.
The film has also become a major success in IMAX, earning around US$221 million from the format, making it the third-highest-grossing IMAX film of all time.
Toy Story 5 Faces Losing Top Global Spot
Before Brand New Day arrived, Toy Story 5 was the highest-grossing film worldwide in 2026, with a global total of around US$1.065 billion.
The Pixar sequel earned another US$20.8 million worldwide in its seventh weekend, bringing its domestic total to US$461.7 million and international earnings to US$604.2 million.
However, with Spider-Man: Brand New Day expected to cross US$1 billion shortly, Pixar’s animated sequel is set to lose its position as the year’s top-grossing film.
