Indonesia Expands Air Network with 53 New Flight Routes

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta PT Angkasa Pura Indonesia (InJourney Airports) has added 53 flight routes to strengthen national air connectivity and support mobility as well as growth in the transportation and tourism sectors.

“From January to April 2026, there have been 53 new flight routes operated across various airports, consisting of routes that had never been operated before as well as additional services on existing routes,” said InJourney Airports President Director Mohammad R. Pahlevi in a statement in Jakarta on Saturday, May 2, 2026.

He noted that the number of routes during the period increased by 15 percent compared to the same period last year, with the addition of 46 routes.

Examples of newly introduced routes include the Sam Ratulangi Airport Manado–Naha Tahuna Airport route, which has been served by Wings Air since May 2026.

Meanwhile, airlines are also expanding services on existing routes, such as Garuda Indonesia, which began operating flights from I Gusti Ngurah Rai Bali Airport to Mozes Kilangin Timika Airport in May 2026.

He said the development of the flight network is a concrete step by InJourney Airports to position airports as agents of development to support economic growth and equitable distribution, as well as contribute to the national tourism sector.

According to him, airport connectivity is a key factor in facilitating public mobility and ensuring the smooth flow of goods and logistics.

“In line with this, InJourney Airports will continue to respond to existing challenges to ensure that air connectivity through airports remains maintained and sustainable,” Pahlevi said.

However, he noted that current challenges include the impact of the Middle East conflict, which has driven up aviation fuel prices and contributed to rising airfares.

In response, InJourney Airports continues to strengthen collaboration with the aviation ecosystem, including airlines, regulators, airport operators, and other stakeholders.

This is aimed at implementing various route development strategies so that airports can continue to increase the number of flight routes to meet consumer demand and enhance market competitiveness.

He added that from April 14 to 16, 2026, InJourney Airports participated in Routes Asia as part of efforts to develop flight networks in the Asia-Pacific region amid ongoing challenges. During the event, InJourney Airports held strategic meetings with 28 airlines and 16 airports.

Airlines that have recently opened routes at InJourney Airports include T’way Air, which launched the Soekarno-Hatta Airport–Incheon Airport route on April 29, 2026.

In May 2026, Scoot will open the HAS Hanandjoeddin Belitung Airport–Changi Airport route, followed by the Supadio Pontianak Airport–Changi Airport route in June 2026.

Spring Airlines is also scheduled to operate routes from Guangzhou and Shenzhen to Soekarno-Hatta Airport starting June 2026.

Several airlines are also expected to open new routes at InJourney Airports in the near future, including Centrum Air, which plans to serve the Tashkent, Uzbekistan–I Gusti Ngurah Rai Bali Airport route, and Greater Bay Airlines, which will launch its inaugural flight from Hong Kong to Juanda International Airport in Surabaya.

“In the international route market, our target within two years is to increase the frequency of existing routes and open new ones. This will serve as the foundation for building direct long-haul connectivity from airports in Indonesia,” he said.

InJourney Airports, together with stakeholders, continues to implement various strategies to increase the number of domestic and international flight routes throughout this year.
