TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian government has expressed deep condolences over the death of Chief Private (Praka) Rico Pramudia, an Indonesian peacekeeper serving in the UNIFIL mission, who suffered severe injuries after an artillery explosion from an Israeli tank near Adchit Al Qusayr on March 29, 2026.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Indonesia has been in close and intensive coordination with UNIFIL, the Lebanese government, and medical teams in Beirut since the incident to ensure that medical treatment was carried out swiftly and optimally.
“Following the attack, the Government of Indonesia through close and intensive coordination with UNIFIL, the Government of Lebanon, and medical teams in Beirut, ensured that immediate and optimum medical treatment was provided. All possible measures were taken,” the ministry said in a written statement on Friday, also posted on X.
“However, due to the severity of his injuries, he passed away despite all efforts to save his life.”
The Indonesian government also extended its deepest condolences to the bereaved family and said the state would ensure full honors for the fallen soldier.
“The Government of Indonesia extends its deepest condolences to the bereaved family. It also expresses its highest respect for his dedication and sacrifice in maintaining international peace,” the statement said.
It added that Indonesia is coordinating with UNIFIL to ensure the repatriation of his remains is carried out promptly and with full dignity.
Indonesia again strongly condemned the Israeli attack that led to the death of the peacekeeper. "Any attack against peacekeepers constitutes a serious violation of international law and may amount to a war crime," the ministry added.
Jakarta has also urged the United Nations to conduct a thorough, transparent, and accountable investigation to establish the facts and ensure accountability for the incident.
“Safety and security of the UN peacekeepers is not negotiable. Therefore, the Government of Indonesia also continues its coordination with the United Nations and other troop- and police-contributing countries (TPCCs) to strengthen the protection of peacekeepers, including through a comprehensive evaluation of their safety and security, as well as enhanced risk mitigation measures in UNIFIL’s area of operations,” the ministry concluded.
