TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Minister of Investment and Downstream Development/Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM), Rosan Perkasa Roeslani, stated that Indonesia must attract Rp13,032 trillion in investment over the next five years to achieve its 8 percent economic growth target by 2029.
This target is significantly higher than the total investment recorded over the past decade, which amounted to Rp9,117 trillion.
"In the last 10 years, from 2014 to 2024, investment inflows were approximately Rp9,100 trillion (Rp9,117 trillion). For the next five years, from 2025 to 2029, the target is to reach more than Rp13,032 trillion. This is the investment we hope to attract so we can achieve 8 percent growth by 2029," Rosan said at the Investor Daily Summit 2025 in Jakarta on Wednesday, October 8, 2025.
He stressed that investment remains the main driver of national economic expansion. Throughout 2014–2024, total domestic and foreign investment showed steady growth despite global pressures.
The Ministry of Investment/BKPM noted that investment realization from January to June 2025 reached Rp942.9 trillion, or 49.5 percent of this year's target of Rp1,905.6 trillion. Meanwhile, estimated realization for the third quarter of 2025 has already hit around Rp1,400 trillion, or 74 percent of the annual target.
Rosan emphasized that accelerating job creation and improving public welfare will depend heavily on Indonesia's success in attracting more investors.
"There are actually many opportunities available to us, which until now have only been opportunities without strong implementation," he noted.
He cited the renewable energy sector as a very promising investment frontier that has not yet been optimally utilized. Indonesia itself is committed to achieving a net-zero emissions target by 2060 or sooner, in line with President Prabowo Subianto's directive.
In addition to clean energy, he also highlighted that a number of ongoing trade agreements, such as the Indonesia-European Union Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IEU-CEPA) and the Canada-ICA-CEPA, are expected to strengthen foreign investment flows into the manufacturing and digital infrastructure sectors.
