TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Indonesia recorded a trade deficit of US$450 million in June 2026, according to the Central Statistics Agency (BPS). The shortfall narrowed significantly from the US$1.61 billion deficit recorded in May 2026.
BPS Deputy for Distribution and Services Statistics Ateng Hartono said the June deficit was mainly driven by the oil and gas sector, which posted a deficit of US$3.49 billion.
“The deficit in June 2026 was primarily caused by the oil and gas commodity group, particularly refined oil products and crude oil,” Ateng said during a press conference in Jakarta on Monday, August 3, 2026.
Meanwhile, Indonesia’s non-oil and gas sector recorded a surplus of US$3.04 billion, supported mainly by exports of animal and vegetable fats and oils, mineral fuels, as well as iron and steel products.
Exports and Imports Rise
Indonesia’s exports in June 2026 reached US$25.46 billion, up 8.84 percent compared with the same month last year.
Oil and gas exports stood at US$1.07 billion, down 3.78 percent year-on-year, while non-oil and gas exports increased 9.46 percent annually to US$24.39 billion.
On the import side, Indonesia’s June 2026 imports totaled US$25.91 billion, rising 34.27 percent compared with June 2025.
Oil and gas imports surged 105.15 percent year-on-year to US$4.56 billion, while non-oil and gas imports increased 25.05 percent to US$21.35 billion.
Trade Surplus Remains in First Half of 2026
Despite the monthly deficit, Indonesia maintained a trade surplus during the January-June 2026 period, totaling US$3.58 billion.
The surplus was supported by the non-oil and gas sector, which recorded a positive balance of US$19.35 billion. However, the oil and gas sector posted a deficit of US$15.77 billion during the same period.
