TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Statistics Indonesia (BPS) reported a 1.61 percent growth in foreign arrivals in August 2025, with 1.51 million recorded visits.
Deputy for Statistics Production at BPS, M. Habibullah, said this number has surged by 12.33 percent compared to August 2024. "The majority of visits were made by foreign tourists from Malaysia," he said during a BPS press release conference held both online and offline on Wednesday, 1 October 2025.
In August 2025, the number of tourists from Malaysia visiting Indonesia amounted to 229.73 thousand, accounting for 15.26 percent of the total visits. This was followed by tourists from Australia with 155.73 thousand visits, then China and Singapore with 140.67 thousand and 129.86 thousand visits, respectively.
Based on the average length of stay, foreign tourists spent an average of 11.02 nights in Indonesia. By nationality group, tourists from ASEAN countries had the shortest average stay of 4.8 nights, while European tourists had the longest average stay of 16.29 nights.
Meanwhile, based on the country, the longest average stay was recorded for tourists from Russia at 22.7 nights, while Singapore had the shortest average stay at 3.09 nights.
Cumulatively, the number of foreign tourist visits to Indonesia from January to August 2025 amounted to 10.04 million visits, up 10.38 percent compared to the same period the previous year.
The number of foreign tourist visits slipped from January to March 2025, from 1.16 million visits in January to 1.02 million in February, and further dropped to 984.77 thousand visits in March. In April 2025, foreign tourist visits rose to 1.16 million and continued to rise until August 2025 to reach 1.51 million.
