TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia coach John Herdman has finalized a 26-man squad for the 2026 AFF Cup after trimming a 50-player training camp roster in Bali.
Herdman said Indonesia will retain 26 players for the tournament, although only 23 can be named for each match.
"For every match, we must name 23 players, but I will maintain 26 players on the roster," Herdman said during training at the Bali United Training Center in Gianyar, Bali, as quoted by Antara.
Herdman said the squad had made significant progress during nearly three weeks of training in Bali. He pointed to Indonesia's 3-0 friendly win over Bali United at Captain I Wayan Dipta Stadium on July 21 as evidence that the team's tactical approach is taking shape, although he stressed that the result itself was not the priority.
"The result is not that important. What's important is the process, seeing the players get minutes and the tactical aspects begin to emerge against a strong opponent. Overall, we have seen progress," he said.
The final squad features experienced players including Jordi Amat, Rizky Ridho, Thom Haye, Egy Maulana Vikri, and Ragnar Oratmangoen.
Herdman has also selected several overseas-based players, including Justin Hubner of Fortuna Sittard, Marselino Ferdinan of Oxford United, and Mitchell Baker of Vermont Green. Young talents Dony Tri Pamungkas, Rayhan Hannan, Ivar Jenner, and Jens Raven have also earned places in the squad.
Indonesia has been drawn in Group A alongside Vietnam, Singapore, Cambodia, and Timor-Leste. The Garuda will open their AFF Cup 2026 campaign against Cambodia at Pakansari Stadium in Bogor on Monday, July 27.
Indonesia is still chasing its first AFF Cup title. Since the tournament's inaugural edition in 1996, the Garuda have reached the final six times but have never lifted the trophy.
Indonesia's 26-man squad for the 2026 AFF Cup:
Goalkeepers: Nadeo Argawinata, Cahya Supriadi, Muhammad Riyandi.
