TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian national football team is set to face Saudi Arabia once again in the fourth round of the 2026 World Cup Asian Qualifiers.
The match will be held at King Abdullah Sports City Stadium in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on Thursday, October 9, 2025, at 12:15 AM WIB.
This fixture will be a challenging one for the Garuda squad, as history has not been on Indonesia’s side when playing in Saudi Arabia. In their last five away encounters, Indonesia recorded one draw and four defeats, scoring only two goals while conceding 14.
The lone draw came in their most recent clash on September 6, 2024, at King Fahd International Stadium, where Indonesia held Saudi Arabia to a 1–1 draw thanks to Sandy Walsh’s goal.
Before that, Indonesia’s last goal on Saudi soil dated back to November 1996, when Ronny Wabia found the net in a friendly match.
Indonesia’s Last Five Matches Away to Saudi Arabia
September 6, 2024 – Saudi Arabia 1–1 Indonesia (2026 World Cup Qualifiers, King Fahd International Stadium – 42,385 attendees)
March 6, 2014 – Saudi Arabia 1–0 Indonesia (2015 Asian Cup Qualifiers, Prince Mohamed bin Fahd Stadium – 9,500 attendees)
February 18, 2004 – Saudi Arabia 3–0 Indonesia (2006 World Cup Qualifiers, King Fahd International Stadium – 1,000 attendees)
October 10, 2003 – Saudi Arabia 5–0 Indonesia (2004 Asian Cup Qualifiers, King Fahd International Stadium)
November 29, 1996 – Saudi Arabia 4–1 Indonesia (Friendly Match, King Fahd International Stadium)
Head-to-Head Record
Despite their struggles away from home, Indonesia recently achieved a historic victory over Saudi Arabia. In their last meeting in Jakarta in November 2024, Indonesia triumphed 2-0, with Marselino Ferdinan scoring the decisive goal.
The win served as a crucial morale boost as the Garuda squad seeks to improve its head-to-head record against the Green Falcons.
However, overall statistics still heavily favor Saudi Arabia. According to Sportsmole, the Green Falcons have won 11 of the 14 meetings, while Indonesia remains undefeated in their last two encounters.
Saudi Arabia, a regular participant in the FIFA World Cup, has qualified for the past two editions (2018 and 2022), though both campaigns ended in the group stage. The team also exited early in 1998, 2002, and 2006, but reached the Round of 16 during their debut in 1994.
For Indonesia, this upcoming clash offers a chance to extend their unbeaten run, end a long winless streak on Saudi soil, and keep their World Cup qualification hopes alive.
