TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's Directorate General of Customs and Excise of the Finance Ministry has conducted enforcement on 2,478 cases of violations in the customs and excise sector. The most handled cases were related to illegal cigarettes.
From the beginning of the year until September 2025, these measures have saved the potential state losses of Rp260.39 billion. "The majority of violations come from the excise sector, namely 235.40 million illegal cigarette sticks with a potential state loss of around Rp210 billion," said the Director General of Customs and Excise, Djaka Budhi Utama Djaka, in an official statement on Thursday, October 2, 2025.
Djaka stated that the operations carried out by the anti-smuggling task force and the illegal excise goods prevention and enforcement task force not only aim to prevent the entry of unofficial goods into Indonesian territory, but also to maximize state revenue, protect the public from prohibited goods, and provide protection to domestic industries.
Djaka mentioned that the enforcement involves administrative and criminal violations in the customs and excise, as well as narcotics sectors. The anti-smuggling operations were carried out massively, targeting various vulnerable channels for the illegal import or export of goods.
Djaka said that the enforcement of illegal excisable goods starts from the factories that produce them and focuses on operations related to illegal cigarette traders who contribute to their circulation. "Customs supervision activities are carried out based on the principles of early warning, risk management approach, and inter-agency coordination," he said.
In response to this achievement, Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa stated that state revenue performance should be balanced with the oversight of illegal practices. "Enforcement against illegal cigarettes is not only about increasing state revenue, but also to create a fair level playing field for compliant cigarette entrepreneurs to grow and compete healthily," he said.
