TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Immigration Directorate General revoked the passport of Mohammad Riza Chalid, a corruption suspect in the management of crude oil at PT Pertamina, on July 11, 2025. Yuldi Yusman, the Acting Director General of Immigration, stated that Riza holds only one passport.
"As of today, we still know that he has one passport, the Indonesian passport. There has been no confirmation regarding any other passport," Yuldi said when met at his office in South Jakarta on Wednesday, October 8, 2025.
Riza Chalid is suspected to be in Malaysia. Yuldi stated that they have sent a letter to the Malaysian Immigration Directorate General to notify them that Riza Chalid's passport has been revoked. The revocation was done within the immigration system, but the physical passport is still held by its owner.
Yuldi also stated that the passport revocation does not automatically render Riza stateless; he still remains an Indonesian citizen.
Meanwhile, the Attorney General's Office (AGO) stated that they have not received official information regarding Riza Chalid holding two passports. Anang Supriatna, the Head of the Legal Information Center of the AGO, stated that they had only requested the revocation of the one passport issued by the Indonesian Government.
"To this day, we have not obtained definite information on whether the person in question holds two passports or not," he said when met in Jakarta on Tuesday, October 7, 2025.
Anang stated that the revocation of the passport is a strategic step for the investigators to limit Riza's movement abroad. "Basically, the revocation of the passport limits his movement. If he is in another country, we will localize him," he said.
After the passport is revoked, Anang continued, Riza can no longer travel to another country, and his presence abroad becomes illegal. Without the document, Riza only has two choices: to return to the homeland using a one-time valid travel document resembling a passport (SPLP), or to stay abroad as an overstayer.
In addition to the passport revocation, the Attorney General's Office has also requested the issuance of a red notice by Interpol to narrow down the movement of the corrupt fugitive from the Pertamina oil case. The investigators continue to process the alleged corruption and money laundering case involving the oil tycoon.
