TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian House Speaker Puan Maharani stated that the House of Representatives (DPR) will inspect the condition and handling of the fire in one of the buildings at the Nusantara Capital City (IKN).
"We will conduct a field inspection. But the most important thing is that the handling must be swift and proper so that the fire does not spread to other buildings," said Puan at the DPR complex, Central Jakarta, on Thursday, October 2, 2025.
Yesterday, a building housing construction workers of the IKN Authority in Penajam Paser Utara, East Kalimantan, caught fire in the afternoon.
The spokesperson for the IKN Authority, Troy Pantouw, stated that the fire incident occurred around 17:30 WITA (Indonesia Central Time). The fire affected several rooms on parts of the second, third, and fourth floors of Construction Worker 1 Tower 14.
"The extinguishing process has been carried out swiftly, supported by 7 fire trucks and 8 water supply tanks. A total of 15 fire extinguisher units," said Troy to Tempo on October 1, 2025.
Troy mentioned that the fire was successfully extinguished at 19:00 WITA. "Our personnel, supported by related fire brigade units, were on the scene promptly and successfully managed to handle the incident," he said.
The IKN Authority has recorded the names of the workers living in the dormitory and is currently relocating them to other towers. There were no casualties in this incident.
"Currently, authorities are investigating the incident," Troy said. However, as a result of the fire, 700 workers had to be temporarily evacuated to other towers.
