Iran's IRGC Warns Trump of Limited Options in Escalating Conflict

4 hours ago 16

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has stated that the United States (US) President Donald Trump is faced with two difficult options in the conflict with Iran: continuing an "impossible" war or accepting a perceived bad deal.

In a statement posted on the social media platform X, the IRGC's intelligence department mentioned that Washington's options are increasingly limited. Tehran has set a deadline for the US to lift the blockade in Iranian port areas. "There is only one way to read this: Trump must choose between 'an impossible military operation or a bad deal with the Islamic Republic of Iran," the statement was quoted by Anadolu as saying.

The IRGC also added that the scope of US decision-making is narrowing, indicating increased international pressure on US policy. They stated that global powers such as Europe, China, and Russia are starting to take a more critical stance towards Washington.

This statement comes amid escalating conflict that began with the joint attack by the United States and Israel on Iran on February 28. The attack prompted retaliation from Tehran, including against US allies in the Gulf region, and led to the closure of the Strait of Hormuz-a vital route for global energy distribution.

Since April 13, the United States has reportedly imposed a maritime blockade targeting Iranian maritime traffic in the region. Although a ceasefire was reached for two weeks on April 8 through Pakistani mediation, ongoing talks in Islamabad have not resulted in a permanent agreement.

Trump then extended the ceasefire without setting a new deadline, following Pakistan's request. However, to date, tensions between the two parties continue without a clear resolution in sight.
