TEMPO.CO, JakartaIsrael once again intercepted a group of ships sailing to Gaza for a humanitarian mission on Wednesday, October 8, 2025. The humanitarian movement, The Freedom Flotilla Coalition (FFC), was intercepted by Israel as it attempted to deliver aid to the blockaded Gaza Strip.

The FFC is an international network of pro-Palestinian activist groups organizing civil maritime missions. They aim to break the Israeli blockade of Gaza to deliver humanitarian aid to the people in the besieged enclave.

According to Reuters, the ships and passengers of the flotilla are safe. They have been transferred to an Israeli port and are expected to be deported soon, said the Israeli foreign ministry in a statement on X. "Another futile attempt to breach the legal naval blockade and enter a combat zone ended in nothing," the ministry stated.

This is the second interception incident in the past week. Earlier, Israel intercepted around 40 ships and detained over 450 activists in the Global Sumud Flotilla aid convoy. One of the activists detained by Israel is Greta Thunberg.

FFC stated that the Israeli forces hijacked the humanitarian flotilla. "The ships were illegally intercepted ... Participants - humanitarians, doctors and journalists from across the world - have been taken against their will and are being held in unknown conditions," FFC said in their statement.

Al Jazeera reported that Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim strongly condemned Israel's actions. He demanded the release of Malaysian activists who participated in the flotilla mission.

The Turkish Foreign Ministry confirmed that the flotilla consisted of its citizens and parliament members. Turkey called Israel's actions a serious violation of international law and piracy. Activists from Ireland, France, Denmark, among other nationalities, were also reported to be on board the flotilla.

FFC, the international network of pro-Palestinian activist groups organizing civil maritime missions, stated that the ships carried "vital aid" worth over US$110,000 in the form of medicines, respiratory equipment, and nutrition supplies intended for hospitals in Gaza facing hunger.

"The Israeli military has no legal jurisdiction over international waters," the organization stated on Instagram. "Our flotilla poses no harm."
