TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that it has deported four Italian citizens who were part of the Global Sumud Flotilla and is prepared to deport other activists. The Israeli military has dispersed the entire humanitarian fleet attempting to break through the blockade in Gaza. Hundreds of activists from dozens of ships have been detained.
As reported by Al Arabiya, live video footage showed Israeli forces boarding the last ship on Friday morning. The Polish-flagged vessel, Marinette, reportedly manned by six people, was the final ship of the Global Sumud Flotilla seized by Israel.
"Israel is keen to end this procedure as quickly as possible," the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated in a post on X.
They claimed that the 461 detained activists are all in good and healthy condition. Previously, the Global Sumud Flotilla urged Israel to release all its activists.
Speaking via video call with the fleet's organizers on Thursday night, an Australian captain, who only identified himself as Cameron, explained that the ship had initially experienced engine problems and had fallen behind the main convoy. He said the ship is now sailing towards Gaza.
"We have a bunch of very tough Turks onboard … we’ve got a lady from Oman and myself, and we’re just going to continue in the direction," he said.
A live video from the cruise ship showed the crew steering the vessel as the sun rose behind them in the Mediterranean Sea, in international waters. Real-time geographical tracking indicated the ship was located about 43 nautical miles from the territorial waters of Gaza.
The Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs had previously warned the Marinette that it would intercept their attempt to enter Gaza's waters.
Since Wednesday, the Israeli naval forces have stopped dozens of ships carrying humanitarian supplies to Gaza and detained around 500 activists from over 40 countries. Israel has previously accused the volunteers of attempting to violate a lawful maritime blockade, a claim that contradicts international law. Israel stated that it will do whatever it takes to stop them.
