TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A number of Malaysian volunteers boarding the Gaza-bound aid vessel as part of the Global Sumud Flotilla mission, were reportedly kidnapped by the Israeli army.
The news was spread by Sumud Nusantara Malaysia—the central command organization for Malaysian volunteers departing for Gaza—through its social media account, observed in Kuala Lumpur early Thursday morning, Antara reported.
At least three Malaysian volunteers, namely Lylia Balqis, Musa Nuwayri, and Sul Aidil, who were on a Malaysia-flagged boat called "Alma," have reportedly been kidnapped by the Israeli forces on their way to Gaza.
Meanwhile, several others are reported to have lost contact.
Sumud Nusantara said that earlier on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, at around 9:44 a.m. Gaza time, the Alma and several other ships carrying Malaysian volunteers, who were part of the Global Sumud Flotilla convoy to bring humanitarian aid to Gaza, sent a red alert signal to the Sumud Nusantara Command Centre (SNCC) in Sepang. They said the ships had been intercepted by the Israeli military.
They have since lost contact with the Sepang command center.
The three Malaysian volunteers who lost contact had previously prepared a video statement to be played and distributed by the command center in the event that they lost contact and were kidnapped by the Israeli military.
In the video, the three volunteers said that if the global community saw the video, they had been abducted by the Israeli forces.
They reaffirmed that their mission was purely a safe humanitarian mission that did not violate international law. They appealed to Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim to immediately demand their unconditional release.
