TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Central Jakarta District Court has postponed the trial over a lawsuit concerning the August 2025 riotous demonstration after the defendants and their legal representatives failed to appear in court on Wednesday, October 1, 2025.
The case, registered under docket number 619/Pdt.G/2025/PN Jkt.Pst, was filed by Anthony Lee, a Podomoro University student, who accuses state institutions of negligence in maintaining security during the protest.
The lawsuit names the House of Representatives (DPR) as the first defendant and the Jakarta Metropolitan Police Chief as the second defendant. The co-defendants include the National Police Chief, the Jakarta Governor, and the President of Indonesia.
“They are considered to have failed in ensuring public safety during the demonstrations last August,” Anthony told Tempo before the session.
The hearing began at 14:28, presided over by Chief Judge Fajar Kusuma Aji, alongside associate judges Rios Rahmanto and Khusnul Khotimah. Judge Fajar confirmed that summons had been sent and received by staff of the respective defendants, including the DPR’s mailroom, the Jakarta Police colleagues, the National Police and Presidential mailrooms, as well as the Jakarta Governor’s secretary.
“However, none of the defendants have attended today’s hearing. Since this is the second summons, the court will issue a final warning. Should they still fail to appear, the proceedings will continue in their absence,” Judge Fajar said during the trial.
The panel then adjourned the case until Wednesday, October 8, 2025.
