TEMPO.COJakarta - At least 185 padel court buildings in Jakarta lack Building Permit (PBG) approval, said Vera Revina Sari, Head of the Jakarta Provincial Government's Department of Public Works, Spatial Planning, and Land Affairs. This figure was derived from a total of 397 padel courts identified across the capital as of February 23, 2026.

"A total of 212 padel buildings have secured a PBG, while 185 others have not," she noted in a statement on Wednesday, February 25, 2026.

The PBG is an authorization granted by the government to building owners to conduct construction, repairs, maintenance, or revitalization in accordance with technical standards. PBG, which replaces the former Building Construction Permit (IMB), must be obtained to guarantee safety and spatial compliance.

Vera emphasized that the PBG document is a prerequisite for any building to be utilized legally. Facility managers lacking PBG approval are ineligible to apply for a Certificate of Compliance, which serves as official proof that a structure is fit for use.

"Without a PBG, it is impossible to apply for a Certificate of Compliance," she clarified.

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung asserted that the administration will take enforcement actions against padel courts operating without the necessary permits. Sanctions against operators who fail to meet these requirements may include the cessation of operations, demolition, and the revocation of business licenses.

The Jakarta Provincial Government has also prohibited the construction of padel courts on regional government assets, green open spaces, and within residential areas. Regarding padel courts in residential zones that do possess permits, Pramono has capped operational hours at 8:00 p.m.

The PDI Perjuangan politician stated that he will summon all stakeholders involved in the licensing and noise controversies surrounding padel courts in the capital. "Next week, I will invite all stakeholders specifically to address this padel permit issue," he said on Thursday, February 19, 2026.

The noise complaints regarding padel courts gained traction following a post on the personal Instagram account @naufal****** on Thursday, February 19, 2026. In the post, the account owner remarked that January became a turning point for their family as they were forced to endure daily noise from a padel court in the Haji Nawi area of Cilandak, South Jakarta. "They are continuously subjecting us to noise after noise," the post read.

The account further detailed that sporting activities occur from 6:00 a.m. to 12:00 a.m., with games averaging two to three hours per booking and creating an incessant din without adequate breaks. The post also featured recordings of the noise allegedly generated by the padel court’s activities.
