TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Manchester City maintained their chances of winning the 2025/2026 Premier League after defeating Crystal Palace 3-0 at the Etihad Stadium in Manchester on Thursday.
Quoted from the Premier League website, cited ANTARA, City's three goals were scored by Antoine Semenyo (32'), Omar Marmoush (40'), and Savinho (84'). The victory saw The Citizens reduce the gap with Arsenal in the league standings to just two points.
City sits in second place with 77 points and a goal difference of +43. Arsenal tops the table with 79 points and a goal difference of +42. With two final matches remaining, both Arsenal and City still have a chance to win the league title.
Meanwhile, Crystal Palace are stuck in 16th place in the standings with 44 points. They are guaranteed to remain in the Premier League next season.
Against Palace, City were utterly dominant. Pep Guardiola's side enjoyed 72.3 percent possession throughout the match, with 15 shots on goal. However, Crystal Palace managed to score in the 23rd minute when Brennan Johnson sent a cross across the goal, which Jean-Philippe Mateta converted.
However, the referee disallowed the goal because Mateta was in an offside position.
Palace were able to threaten City's defense several times, but City goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma was alert in goal to keep the home team's goal safe.
City finally broke the deadlock in the 32nd minute. Phil Foden delivered a backheel pass from outside the box, which Semenyo tapped into the corner of the Palace goal. The score was 1-0. Two minutes later, Palace nearly tied the game with a shot by Tyrick Mitchell, but Donnarumma saved it.
The Citizens doubled their lead in the 40th minute through Marmoush, again assisted by Foden. City led 2-0 at halftime. After the break, City remained in control of the game. Crystal Palace occasionally threatened with quick counterattacks.
In the 64th minute, Palace had a golden opportunity after Bernardo Silva lost the ball to Ismaila Sarr. However, Sarr's finish was too weak and easily saved by Donnarumma. Palace had another chance in the 83rd minute through Jorgen Strand Larsen, who met Adam Wharton's long pass. Unfortunately, Larsen's shot sailed over the bar.
City finally secured victory with a third goal in the 84th minute from Savinho. This time, Rayan Cherki provided the assist after a fine individual move from his team's defensive line. The goal sealed Manchester City's 3-0 victory over Crystal Palace.
