TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Marc Marquez's troubled history at the Pertamina Mandalika International Circuit continued on Sunday, October 5, 2025, when the 2025 MotoGP World Champion crashed out of the Indonesian Grand Prix main race. The incident, which also ended the race for Aprilia's Marco Bezzecchi, cemented Marquez's streak of never finishing a race in Mandalika.
Starting from the ninth grid position, Marquez was aggressively trying to advance when the crash took place at Turn 7. Bezzecchi, who had started from pole but had been overtaken, reportedly nudged the rear of Marquez's bike. Marquez fell first, and the subsequent collision sent both riders into the gravel.
Marquez was seen supporting his weight with his right shoulder and briefly holding his left hand before walking away from the scene. Following the crash, he was later observed holding his right hand inside his suit during the live broadcast on Trans7. He spoke briefly with journalists before departing the circuit for Spain to seek treatment.
The crash adds to Marquez's poor history at Mandalika, where he has never managed to finish a race since Indonesia joined the MotoGP calendar in 2022.
His previous Indonesian Grand Prix history includes:
2022: A total of four crashes leading up to the main race, which he did not participate in.
2023: A fall at Turn 13 during the main race.
2024: Two separate accidents, one of which resulted in his bike catching fire.
In this year's Indonesian MotoGP alone, Marquez had already crashed twice during practice sessions, once at Turn 10 and once at Turn 5, at low speed.
In contrast to his brother's unfortunate outcome, Alex Marquez of Gresini Racing finished the race in third place, just behind his teammate, Fermin Aldeguer, and Pedro Costa.
