TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Global Sumud Flotilla stated on Friday, October 3, 2025, that most of their ships have been intercepted by the Israeli navy. However, the Marinette is the ship that is currently closest to the Gaza Strip.
Marinette Still Sailing
According to a report by Daily Sabah, the Global Sumud Flotilla stated through a live broadcast that Marinette is still sailing with a visible crew navigating the ship. As of Thursday night, the ship was about 80 nautical miles from Gaza, or 10 nautical miles from the location where Israel started intercepting other ships.
This flotilla is an international aid convoy to deliver humanitarian supplies to Gaza. Earlier this week, the Israeli navy attacked the convoy as the ships approached Palestinian waters.
Dozens of Ships Seized, Hundreds of Activists Detained
According to the official Global Sumud Flotilla tracker, dozens of ships have been seized and hundreds of activists have been detained. An Israeli official on Thursday, October 2, mentioned that more than 400 activists on 41 ships were arrested.
"In an operation that lasted roughly 12 hours, Israeli navy personnel foiled a large-scale incursion attempt by hundreds of individuals aboard 41 vessels that had declared their intention to breach the legal maritime security blockade on the Gaza Strip," the official said. The activists are now being taken to the Port of Ashdod.
As reported by France 24, the Global Sumud Flotilla, which consists of about 45 ships, set sail last month. Among the participants are politicians and activists, including Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg. They are moving towards Gaza amidst a famine crisis caused by the Israeli blockade.
Since Wednesday, October 1, the Israeli navy has been intercepting ship after ship after warning the activists not to enter waters they claim are under blockade. The ship boarded by Thunberg was among those stopped by Israel.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu praised his navy's operation. "I commend the soldiers and commanders of the navy who carried out their mission on Yom Kippur in the most professional and efficient manner," Netanyahu said in an official statement. He added that their actions prevented dozens of ships from entering the war zone and thwarted the delegitimization campaign against Israel.
The Global Sumud Flotilla emphasizes its commitment to send aid to Gaza. They state that this effort will not stop even though Israel continues to attempt to thwart the mission.
