TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa said the Ministry of Finance will run random inspections on the Indonesian customs and excise green lane, but ensure they will not disrupt import activities.
"(Inspections) are designed not to disrupt the smooth flow of goods there. That's why I'm using random sampling. It won't be continuous," Purbaya told the media at the Directorate General of Taxation office, Jakarta, on Wednesday, October 1, 2025.
The green lane is a service and supervision process for the release of imported goods that forgoes physical inspection. Inspections on the green lane are expected to prevent the entry of illegal goods and boost state revenue. In the 2026 State Budget, the target revenue from customs and excise expanded from Rp334.3 trillion to Rp336 trillion.
Purbaya previously said that the government would intensify crackdowns on illegal goods, both those entering from abroad and domestically, with illegal cigarettes as one of the focuses.
Director of Communication and Guidance for Customs Service Users Nirwala Dwi Heryanto said earlier that the ministry had conducted operations to eradicate the sale of illegal cigarettes through marketplaces. The operation was carried out by purchasing cigarettes sold in local markets.
According to Nirwala, cracking down on these activities is no easy feat, as sellers use different product names in marketplaces. "As it's not possible to sell them as cigarettes. They are offered in different forms like t-shirts, but the brand is a cigarette brand," said Nirwala at the Ministry of Finance office, Jakarta, on Friday, September 26, 2025.
In 2025, per September, the Finance Ministry had run about 12,041 crackdowns, with more than 745 million cigarette sticks seized.
