TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Metropolitan Police arrested a man with the initials WFT on suspicion of being the hacker known as Bjorka. However, investigators have not yet confirmed if WFT is the same person responsible for high-profile breaches involving millions of personal data records.

"At the moment, investigators are only focused on proving the role of the perpetrator in committing the alleged crimes," said the Head of Public Relations of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police, Brigadier General Ade Ary Syam Indardi, when confirmed by Tempo on Sunday, October 5, 2025.

According to Ade Ary, there have been no reports from other victims who claim to have been harmed by the broader range of hacks attributed to Bjorka. Therefore, investigators are currently focused only on the report from a bank that received threats after its data was allegedly breached.

WFT was arrested in Minahasa, South Sulawesi, on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, following a report from a bank regarding illegal access and data manipulation. The hacker claimed to have compromised 4.9 million customer data records and used the data to extort the bank.

Deputy Director of the Cyber Crime Division of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police, Grand Commissioner Fian Yunus, stated that WFT is suspected of having explored and conducted transactions on the dark web since 2020. "The perpetrator has had an account on the dark web since 2020," Fian said at a press conference on Thursday, October 2, 2025.

Fian explained that WFT has been active on darkforum.st since 2024, previously jumping between various other dark web platforms that had been shut down by Interpol in collaboration with international police forces. WFT used the username Bjorka on various dark web platforms but also cycled through other aliases, including SkyWave, Shint Hunter, and Opposite6890, as a disguise.

Despite WFT using the Bjorka moniker, police remain hesitant to confirm his identity as the individual responsible for all the previous major data leaks.

"Perhaps, anyone can be anyone on the internet," Fian noted. "We need further investigation regarding the evidence we have found so that we can formulate that [confirmation]."

This cautious stance is particularly relevant given recent developments. After WFT's arrest, an individual claiming to be Bjorka allegedly emerged and spread the personal data of 341,000 police personnel. The Jakarta Metropolitan Police and the Indonesian National Police Headquarters have not yet responded to the allegations regarding this new data leak.

Police have charged WFT under Article 46 jo Article 30, and/or Article 48 jo Article 32, and/or Article 51 verse (1) jo Article 35 of the Law on Information and Electronic Transactions, which carries a maximum penalty of 12 years imprisonment.
