TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Criminal Investigation Unit (Satreskrim) of the Sukabumi Kota Police is investigating a case of alleged molestation or sexual harassment against a student from the Faculty of Law, Nusa Putra University Sukabumi, by an employee of the Sukabumi District Court (PN).
"The investigation was initiated after the victim, identified as VM (21) from Cikembar Sub-district, Sukabumi Regency, filed a police report on Friday, March 28th," said the Public Relations Officer of Sukabumi Kota Police, Adjunct Commissioner Astuti Setyaningsih, in Sukabumi on Sunday, March 2nd, 2025.
In the report, the victim experienced sexual harassment by an employee of the Sukabumi District Court in the health room at the judicial institution's office on Bhayangkara Street, Gunungpuyuh Sub-district, Sukabumi City, on Thursday, February 20th.
The incident unfolded when VM, an intern at the Sukabumi District Court, suddenly fainted in front of the courtroom. She was then taken to the health room and laid on a bed. Inside the health room, she was alone with the alleged perpetrator, identified as ES.
ES is suspected of touching the victim’s body and sensitive areas while the room was empty. VM later confided in a colleague about the harassment.
Following the incident, the Sukabumi District Court dismissed ES from his position. He has admitted to the misconduct, apologized, and was forgiven by VM.
Despite this, the victim remains determined to pursue legal action and has reported ES to the Sukabumi Kota Police. Authorities have taken statements from the victim and several witnesses, as well as secured evidence, including the clothing VM wore during the incident.
"We are still developing this case and detaining the alleged perpetrator for the sake of investigation and prosecution," said Astuti.
The employee of the Sukabumi District Court who is suspected of committing sexual harassment against the intern is charged under article 6a of the Republic of Indonesia Law Number 12 of 2022 concerning sexual violence crimes and/or Article 290 of the Criminal Code. The maximum punishment stipulated in the article is four years in prison
