Police: Protests Shall Not Disrupt Germany's Steinmeier Visit to Jakarta

7 hours ago 17

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Metro Police ensure the roads are clear from protest activities as German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier is visiting Jakarta today, Monday, June 15, 2026.

Jakarta authorities have been instructed to assure that Steinmeier's VIP route is "sterile and under control," according to the director of Vital Object Security (Dirpamobvit) of the Jakarta Metro Police, Commissioner Joko Sulistio.

"Today, besides facilitating protests, Jakarta is also receiving a visit from the President of Germany," he said during a security briefing at the parliamentary complex on Monday.

During the visit, President Steinmeier and the First Lady of Germany will pass through the roads of Halim, Sudirman, Gatot Subroto, Gerbang Pemuda, Asia-Afrika, and the TVRI area.

Hence, it is necessary, Joko said, to ensure the entire route is sterile, safe, and under control. "There shall be no protest activities expanding or shifting into the VIP route," he said.

Authorities are also directed to pay special attention to the TVRI area since it is adjacent to vulnerable points for the movement of demonstrators.

The Jakarta Metro Police are deploying 585 personnel dispersed at a number of specific points across the capital to secure the state visit, starting in the morning at 06.00 a.m. local time.

Today is President Steinmeier's first visit to Indonesia during President Prabowo Subianto's administration. Steinmeier visited the State Palace, Istiqlal Mosque, Jakarta Cathedral, and several other locations in his one-day trip to Indonesia. He is scheduled to depart the country on Monday evening.
