TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto announced that several heads of state contacted him after he delivered a speech at the 80th Session of the United Nations General Assembly. He claimed that world leaders were impressed by Indonesia's position on resolving the Gaza conflict.
"They were impressed by Indonesia's willingness to seek a middle ground. We want to find a substantive solution," Prabowo said upon his arrival at Halim Perdanakusuma Airport, Jakarta, on Saturday, September 27, 2025.
The former Defense Minister expressed his hope that his visit to the UN General Assembly would result in a ceasefire in Gaza, Palestine. "An immediate ceasefire is needed for the people of Gaza and a substantive resolution. So, I think, Alhamdulillah (Praise be to God), my visit has been beneficial," Prabowo stated.
In his address on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, in New York, Prabowo reaffirmed Indonesia's full support for a two-state solution to the conflict. He asserted that true peace would only be achieved if the rights of Palestine and the security of Israel are recognized and guaranteed by the international community.
"We must guarantee statehood for Palestine, but Indonesia also declares that once Israel recognizes the independence and statehood of Palestine, Indonesia will immediately recognize the State of Israel, and we will support all guarantees for Israel’s security," Prabowo said in his speech, as quoted in the official statement.
On that occasion, Prabowo highlighted the worsening humanitarian tragedy in Gaza and urged the world not to ignore it. He emphasized that millions of people are currently facing trauma, hunger, and the threat of death while the international community looks on.
Netanyahu Notes Prabowo's 'Passionate Words'
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who spoke first on the fourth and final day of the General Debate at the 80th Session of the UN General Assembly, mentioned that he and other countries took note of the Indonesian President's passionate remarks.
"I took note of the encouraging words spoken here by the president of Indonesia. This is the country with the largest Muslim population of all nations. It's also a sign of what could come," Netanyahu said.
Netanyahu claimed that forward-thinking Arab and Muslim leaders understand that working with Israel will give them access to advanced Israeli technologies in fields like medicine, science, agriculture, water, defense, and artificial intelligence.
"I believe that in the coming years, the Middle East will look dramatically different. Many of those who wage war on Israel today will be gone tomorrow. Brave peacemakers will take their place," he concluded.
