TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - While attending the Indonesian Police Day ceremony on Wednesday, July 1, 2026, President Prabowo Subianto commended the role of the police force in supporting the implementation of the free nutritious meal (MBG) program.
According to Prabowo, the Indonesian police had established more than a thousand nutrition fulfillment service units (SPPGs) or MBG kitchens.
"I have no doubt that the kitchens built by the police are among the best," he said in Cikeas, Bogor, West Java, this morning.
Claiming that it's not just his personal observation, Prabowo said many observers and reviewers from international agencies have come and inspected the kitchens. "Most of them inspected the police-owned kitchens," he added.
Prabowo also appreciates the active role of police in supporting his programs, including food security. The police, he said, have built "good quality" food warehouses across various regions.
Meanwhile, Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo said the police institution will continue to assist the government's food security programs. He said the police would increase the number of MBG kitchens and intensify the corn planting program. "Bapak President has instructed the acceleration of food and energy self-sufficiency," he said.
According to Listyo, the police have cooperated with the association of state-owned banks to facilitate people's business credit (KUR) for farmers. The police also push for corn cultivation on approximately 1.37 million hectares of land. He claimed that from 2025 to the second quarter of 2026, the police have conducted large-scale harvests with a total production of 5.7 million tons of corn.
As for the MBG program, the police are targeting building 1,500 kitchens throughout 2026. As of June 2026, the police claimed to have built 1,415 SPPGs, consisting of 828 operational SPPGs, 227 SPPGs in operational stages, and 360 SPPGs in the construction stage, including 33 of them in the remote, frontier, and underdeveloped regions.
"These SPPGs are projected to serve 3.5 million beneficiaries and employ 70,700 workers," said Listyo.
In front of President Prabowo, Listyo said that the police's SPPGs have obtained 348 sanitation certificates, 146 halal product assurance certificates, 285 water laboratory test certificates, and 305 trained chefs. The police also compiled the Rasa Bhayangkara Nusantara cookbook, which contains 80 diverse menus to ensure the fulfillment of nutritional standards.
