TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Prabowo Subianto visited Basman Palace in Amman, Jordan, to meet with King Abdullah II bin Al-Hussein on Wednesday, February 25, 2026. A line of honor guards and a trumpet fanfare heralded Prabowo's arrival.
Upon arriving at Basman Palace, Prabowo was received directly by King Abdullah II alongside the Crown Prince of Jordan, Al Hussein bin Abdullah II. The leaders then participated in a photo session in one of the palace's primary halls.
In a formal welcoming ceremony at Basman Palace, the national anthems of the Republic of Indonesia and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan were performed.
Following the anthems, the two heads of state inspected the guard of honor, signifying the highest level of respect accorded to a state guest.
After the ceremony, President Prabowo and King Abdullah II proceeded to the palace's study for a private meeting, which was followed by expanded discussions involving delegations from both nations.
During the meeting, the two leaders addressed several key issues, including the strengthening of bilateral cooperation, humanitarian collaboration, and regional stability and peace.
According to the Presidential Secretariat, 2026 marks the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Indonesia and Jordan. Over the decades, bilateral ties have expanded into strategic sectors including politics, defense, economy, and education. An official statement from the Presidential Secretariat noted that, "For Indonesia, the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan is an essential partner and a logistical hub in the Middle East."
Prabowo's visit to Basman Palace is expected to solidify concrete partnerships and broaden collaboration across various other sectors.
This trip marks Prabowo’s second visit to Jordan since assuming the presidency. During his previous visit on April 13, 2025, Prabowo was personally greeted by King Abdullah II at Marka Military Airport in Amman; the King notably drove Prabowo to his hotel.
During that earlier visit, Prabowo remarked that he and King Abdullah II share a long-standing friendship that dates back to their youth.
On November 14-15, 2025, King Abdullah II conducted a return visit to Indonesia. On Saturday, November 15, 2025, President Prabowo and King Abdullah II observed a demonstration of collaborative drone capabilities between the Indonesian National Armed Forces and the Jordanian Armed Forces at the Djamsuri Air Force Shooting Range in Halim Perdanakusuma, Jakarta.
