TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto extended his deepest condolences to the Royal Family and the people of Thailand on the passing of Princess Bajrakitiyabha, during a bilateral meeting with Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, on Monday.
"I would like to express our deepest condolences, on behalf of Indonesia and on my own behalf, to the Royal Family and the people of Thailand on the passing of Her Royal Highness Princess Bajrakitiyabha," President Prabowo said.
Princess Bajrakitiyabha, the eldest daughter of King Maha Vajiralongkorn, passed away in June 2026 at the age of 47 after being in a coma for nearly three years.
A distinguished legal scholar with two postgraduate degrees from Cornell University, she previously served as a prosecutor and held the rank of general as Chief of Staff of the King's Personal Security Royal Guard Command.
In a reciprocal gesture of sympathy, Prime Minister Anutin expressed his condolences to Indonesia following a disastrous fire aboard the passenger ship Mutiara Sentosa II off the coast of Sumenep, East Java, while en route from Surabaya to Makassar.
Anutin noted during the briefing that Indonesian Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto had confirmed the maritime emergency had been brought under control.
The high-level meeting marked Prime Minister Anutin's first official state visit to Indonesia.
Following a restricted one-on-one session between the two leaders, full delegation talks culminated in the adoption of the Indonesia-Thailand Strategic Partnership Roadmap 2026–2030—formalizing a framework for enhanced bilateral cooperation after relations were officially upgraded to a strategic partnership in 2025.
