Prabowo Pushes E20 Fuel Plan, Eyes Construction of 50 Ethanol Plants

8 hours ago 21

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta President Prabowo Subianto plans to increase the number of ethanol factories in Indonesia by building at least 30 to 50 new ones. This effort is intended to develop fuel oil with an ethanol blend.

While delivering instructions during a joint harvest activity with the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) in Malang, East Java, on Friday, Prabowo stated that Indonesia can now mix fuel with ethanol up to 20 percent, or E20.

"Earlier, officials said we could reach E20. We need a factory. We only have one factory. I decided earlier that we would build at least 30 factories, and if necessary, up to 50," he said, as quoted by ANTARA.

The Head of State cited examples of how India has already achieved E20 and Brazil has already achieved E100. Reflecting on these two countries, he expressed optimism that Indonesia can achieve its target of reaching E20.

The President also mentioned that Indonesia continues to make various efforts to achieve energy self-sufficiency. This was evident in the inauguration of the Abadi Masela LNG Project on Thursday, July 16, after 28 years of stagnation, and Indonesia became the first country in the world to produce B50, a biofuel blend based on palm oil and diesel.

"We now produce diesel fuel from palm oil. So, starting this July, we will no longer import diesel fuel from abroad," the President explained.

On that occasion, he urged all elements of the nation to continue collaborating to achieve the targets set by the government to support public welfare, not only through energy self-sufficiency but also through food, natural resources, and technological innovation.

One of the things highlighted by the President was the existence of a national electric motorbike which will be launched in the next few weeks.

He hopes the national electric motorbike will benefit the wider community, especially farmers, by providing a more efficient means of transportation.
