TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A person claiming to be the notorious hacker known as Bjorka has recently leaked data belonging to the Indonesian National Police. Thousands of personal data of police personnel are now accessible to the public.
The Executive Director of the Southeast Asia Freedom of Expression Network (Safenet), Nenden Sekar Arum, revealed that this leak is evidence of the digital security weaknesses within the police force. "This is a strong indication of their weak capacity," said Nenden on Tuesday, October 7, 2025.
According to Nenden, the Indonesian National Police has failed to safeguard the personal data of their own members, who are also citizens of the country. As an institution, the police should be able to protect the data they have collected.
However, Nenden advised the police not to focus too much on chasing the real Bjorka. "And if there is a pursuit, it is also necessary to ensure whether it's the right person, not just catching anyone," said Nenden.
Prior to this, on October 4, 2025, someone claiming to be Bjorka had claimed to have released the data of 341,000 police personnel. The illegally obtained data was disseminated through their personal website, which could be freely accessed.
The data contained names, ranks, task units, and personal contact information of the police personnel. However, this is not the latest data from the Indonesian National Police, but rather data from 2016. Therefore, some names in the data are now known to have retired.
The leakage of police data occurred after the Jakarta Metropolitan Police arrested a man with the initial WFT, who claimed to be the owner of the Bjorka X account with the username @Bjorkanesiaaa. He was arrested for allegedly committing the crimes of illegal access and data manipulation, accompanied by extortion.
The Cyber Crime Deputy Director of the Jakarta Metropolitan Police, Senior Commissioner Fian Yunus, stated that WFT had been active on social media, claiming to be Bjorka since 2020. However, Fian could not confirm whether WFT is the individual behind the dissemination of 1.3 billion SIM card data, IndiHome user data, the General Election Commission (KPU) data, and document transaction data that had gained attention since 2022.
"Anyone can be anyone on the internet. We need to delve deeper into the evidence we have found so that we can formulate it," said Fian at the Jakarta Metropolitan Police on Thursday, October 2, 2025.
