TEMPO.CO, Ternate - The Ternate Search and Rescue (SAR) Agency reported that a 16-year-old hiker from Ngade Village, South Ternate District, Ternate City, has gone missing after setting out to climb Mount Gamalama on Tuesday, May 13, 2025.
The report was received by the SAR Office in Ternate on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, at 01:55 AM WIT (Eastern Indonesia Time)
Ikshan M Nur, the Public Relations Officer of the Ternate SAR Office, stated that according to the report, the missing teenager had asked for their family’s permission to hike Mount Gamalama on Tuesday around 04:00 PM WIT.
The hiker was reported to have taken the Love Park route in Moya Village, Central Ternate. However, by 10:00 PM WIT that evening, the individual had not returned. Concerned, the family began searching the area, from Moya Park to the summit of Mount Gamalama.
"The victim has not yet been located. The family subsequently reported the incident to our office. Our rescue team has now been deployed to the location," Ikshan told Tempo on Wednesday, May 14.
He added that the SAR team was dispatched with a Rescue Car carrying both evacuation and SAR equipment. The agency is also coordinating with all relevant personnel at the site to continue the search for the missing hiker.
"Further updates will follow. We will provide information once the search operation concludes," Ikshan said.
