TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - United States President Donald Trump has asserted that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will not face the risk of arrest by law enforcement whenever he decides to visit the U.S.
As ANTARA reported, Trump made the statement after New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani, in an interview with The New York Times on Saturday, July 18, called Netanyahu a war criminal who "should be in The Hague."
Mamdani also stated that he would comply with New York City's laws. He said discussions are currently underway regarding the city government's authority under local regulations regarding its promise to detain Netanyahu if the Israeli leader visits New York.
"Benjamin Netanyahu will not be arrested, in any way, shape, or form, while in the United States of America," Trump wrote on the Truth Social platform.
Trump added that Netanyahu was struggling with the Islamic Republic of Iran. The U.S. president also stressed that those who should be jailed are Iran's leaders who, he said, have led the country into an "unprecedented spiral of death and destruction."
"Something that should have been dealt with years ago, by previous Presidents," Trump continued.
In September 2025, ahead of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly, Mamdani, who was then a mayoral candidate, stated that he would issue an arrest warrant for Netanyahu if he was elected mayor of New York and Netanyahu came to the city.
