TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Typhoon Bualoi, along with subsequent floods and landslides in Vietnam, has claimed 51 lives. Fourteen people remain missing, and 164 others have been injured.
The Vietnam Disaster Management Authority estimated damages from the storm at up to 15.9 trillion Vietnamese Dong (around $400 million), according to a report by Xinhua.
The typhoon caused extensive destruction, damaging or submerging over 238,000 homes and flooding nearly 89,000 hectares of rice fields and other crops. Losses also affected more than 17,000 hectares of aquaculture and almost 50,300 hectares of forest.
Infrastructure was severely impacted, with more than 8,800 power poles knocked down, leaving nearly 468,500 households without electricity. Almost 1,500 schools were also damaged, the report said.
Local authorities are working to restore essential services, clear blocked roads, and support affected communities.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh approved an emergency support package of 2.524 trillion Vietnamese Dong (about US$96.5 million) from the central budget reserve for 15 affected provinces, according to the Vietnam News Agency on Friday.
Typhoon Bualoi brought strong winds, heavy rainfall, and large sea waves, disrupting life across the region.
Vietnam, a key regional manufacturing hub, saw some large factories, including Foxconn, Formosa Plastics, Luxshare, and Vinfast, affected by the storm.
The central bank has directed lenders to consider restructuring or freezing loans for companies impacted by the typhoon, Deputy Governor Pham Thanh Ha said on Friday, October 3, 2025, as reported by CNA.
