TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The U.S. demands Iran to dismantle its main nuclear facilities and hand over all enriched uranium stockpiles, according to American media reports.

This was conveyed during the third stage of nuclear talks between the U.S. and Iran in Geneva, Switzerland, on Thursday, according to reports by the Wall Street Journal, citing officials as reported by Anadolu.

The U.S. delegation is expected to press Iran to close its three principal nuclear facilities in Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan, and to hand over all remaining enriched uranium stockpiles, estimated at 10,000 kilograms, to the U.S.

Washington also demands that the agreement be permanent without any time limits.

Regarding nuclear enrichment, the U.S. has a zero tolerance policy, although they may possibly allow Iran to operate a reactor in Tehran, but only for low-level enrichment processes, and in a very limited capacity for medical purposes.

Previously on Wednesday, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio acknowledged that Iran is not currently enriching uranium.

However, Washington is only offering minimal sanction relief at the beginning, with promises of further relief if Iran demonstrates continuous compliance in the future, according to U.S. officials.

Axios reported that the negotiations in Geneva took place in two formats, both indirectly and directly between U.S. and Iran negotiators, although both sides did not openly acknowledge direct negotiations.

The U.S. also signaled flexibility towards Iran's request to retain the right to enrich uranium, but only if Tehran can provide assurances that it will not lead to the creation of nuclear weapons.

Although in the end, Washington wants Iran to reduce ballistic missile development and support for regional proxies, these issues were not the focus of the discussions, as this round of negotiations was focused on the nuclear issue.

The negotiations in Geneva are the longest of the three sessions held under Oman's mediation, lasting for more than 3.5 hours and are expected to continue.

Meanwhile, Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Esmaeli Baghaei, described the negotiations as "intensive and serious," and both parties have put forward "significant and practical proposals" regarding the nuclear issue and the lifting of sanctions.

Baghaei also highlighted the "contradictory statements" made by certain U.S. officials during the negotiation process.

The U.S. has not yet made any statements regarding the negotiations with Iran.
