TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - University of Indonesia (Universitas Indonesia, UI) is set to open an undergraduate program in artificial intelligence (AI) at the Faculty of Computer Science (Fasilkom) as approved by its senate on October 3, 2025.
Based on information from the official UI website, the program is expected to produce innovators and professional AI experts who can compete at the international level and make real contributions to the nation's development. The program is designed to equip students with a strong mathematical foundation and the latest technological skills.
The curriculum offered includes mandatory courses such as AI product design, AI ethics, and generative AI, as well as elective courses ranging from AI databases to reinforcement learning.
Through the curriculum, students will be guided to understand various aspects of artificial intelligence, from product design to ethics and business implementation.
They will also hone technical skills in AI modeling and AI system engineering, and develop human-centric AI technology.
Besides UI, several other universities in Indonesia have also opened similar programs. Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS) offers a bachelor's degree in artificial intelligence engineering, while Bina Nusantara University (Binus) and Pelita Harapan University (UPH) have the 'Artificial Intelligence' (AI) program.
The Indonesia Computer University and Airlangga University (Unair) also contribute to the field of AI, albeit in a different scope from undergraduate computer science studies, but in robotic engineering and artificial intelligence bachelor's degree programs.
The admission of new students for the undergraduate program in artificial intelligence at the Faculty of Computer Science, Universitas Indonesia, will begin in the academic year 2026/2027. With this step, it is hoped that Indonesia can produce more talented and competent digital undergraduates to serve industry needs.
