TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Ranger Super Duty is poised to enter the Southeast Asian market. Ford's latest pickup model was introduced by Ford Global Fleet Sales Business Development Director Mark Tennant to a dozen executives from mining and plantation companies across Southeast Asia in mid-March 2026.
In the first quarter of this year, Ford Global Fleet Sales—part of Thailand's automotive conglomerate RMA Group—plans to market various variants of the vehicle across Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) markets, including Indonesia. "Over the past five years, our research shows the operating cost of this vehicle is 70 to 80 percent lower than comparable products," Tennant said at the opening of a Ford Ranger test drive event attended by Tempo in Chonburi, Thailand. The model was first launched in Australia in mid-2025.
With additional development in the new Ford Ranger lineup, Tennant claimed the vehicle is well suited for operations in mining and plantation areas. The latest Ranger Super Duty variant is equipped with a 3,000 cubic centimeter engine capable of carrying loads of up to 4.5 tons, with comparable towing capacity. "In this development, we focus on the chassis to make it more robust and capable of meeting a wide range of needs," he said.
Tennant was optimistic the 4x4 pickup would be well received in Southeast Asia, citing the region's vast natural resource industries—Ford's primary target segment. "We believe our product can become the preferred fleet vehicle for plantation and mining companies that require durability across all terrains," he said. He also described Indonesia as a promising market. "We are targeting the mining segment, particularly coal and nickel," he added.
