TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Former head of the Indonesia's Attorney General's Office Asset Recovery Agency (BPA), Kuntadi, was officially appointed as the new Deputy Attorney General for Special Crimes (Jampidsus) on Friday morning by Attorney General ST Burhanuddin.
Kuntadi replaces Febrie Adriansyah, who resigned from the position amid an investigation into alleged corruption and money laundering.
His appointment followed President Prabowo Subianto's decision to appoint five new senior officials within the Attorney General's Office through Presidential Decree No. 87/TPA of 2026.
Kuntadi is a veteran prosecutor with extensive experience in Indonesia's law enforcement sector. He has held several strategic positions throughout his career, including leading major corruption investigations.
Early Career at the Attorney General's Office
Born in Semarang, Central Java, on January 4, 1970, Kuntadi graduated from the Faculty of Law at Jenderal Soedirman University (Unsoed).
He began his career at the Attorney General's Office in 1996 as an administrative staff member at the Deputy Attorney General for Special Crimes (Jampidsus) office before later becoming a career prosecutor.
Over the years, Kuntadi held several key positions, including coordinator at the Jakarta High Prosecutor's Office, head of the Lubuklinggau District Attorney's Office, head of a sub-directorate at the Deputy Attorney General for Intelligence (Jamintel), and head of the Central Jakarta District Attorney's Office.
In 2020, he was appointed as Assistant to the Attorney General for General Affairs. Two years later, in 2022, he became the Director of Investigation at Jampidsus, a position that placed him at the forefront of several high-profile corruption cases.
Handled Major Corruption Cases
During his tenure as Director of Investigation, Kuntadi oversaw several major cases, including the alleged corruption case involving the tin commodity trading system within the mining permit area of PT Timah Tbk between 2015 and 2022.
The case implicated several figures, including businessman Harvey Moeis, the husband of actress Sandra Dewi.
Kuntadi also led the investigation into the corruption case surrounding the procurement of 4G base transceiver station (BTS) infrastructure by the Telecommunications and Information Accessibility Agency (Bakti) under the Ministry of Communication and Informatics between 2020 and 2022. The case resulted in the designation of former Communication and Informatics Minister Johnny Gerard Plate as a suspect.
From Asset Recovery Chief to Jampidsus
In 2024, Kuntadi was appointed head of the Lampung High Prosecutor's Office. A year later, in April 2025, he became head of the East Java High Prosecutor's Office, replacing Mia Amiati.
Several months later, he was appointed head of the Attorney General's Office Asset Recovery Agency (BPA).
During his tenure at BPA, the agency handed over Rp1.029 trillion in non-tax state revenue (PNBP) from asset recovery efforts to the Finance Ministry. The funds came from BPA Fair auctions and the recovery of assets linked to convicted fraudster Eddy Tansil.
After a relatively short tenure leading the asset recovery agency, Kuntadi has now been appointed as Jampidsus, taking over the position previously held by Febrie Adriansyah.
