TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - World leaders and the United Nations Secretary-General, as reported by Al Jazeera, have welcomed the positive response of the Palestinian resistance group Hamas to the peace proposal put forward by United States President Donald Trump on Friday, October 3, 2025.
Senior Hamas official, Mousa Abu Marzouk, expressed acceptance of the core elements of President Trump's plan to end Israel's genocide in Gaza, a development described by the U.S. leader as "unprecedented."
French President Emmanuel Macron stated that Hamas' commitment "must be followed up without delay." Macron also emphasized the possibility of "making decisive progress towards peace."
Macron mentioned that France would fully support international peace efforts following Hamas' statement.
"We now have the opportunity to make decisive progress towards peace," Macron wrote on the U.S. social media company, X, as reported by Anadolu.
He pledged that France would "play its full part in line with its efforts" at the UN alongside the U.S., Israel, and Palestine, as well as global partners.
Macron praised Trump and his team for their "commitment to peace."
Meanwhile, the Qatari Foreign Ministry welcomed Hamas' statement and its "readiness to release all hostages." Qatar also supported Trump's call for Israel to stop its attacks on Gaza immediately.
Egypt expressed its "appreciation" for Hamas' statement and the U.S. leader's "realistic political vision" to achieve "peace and stability" in the Middle East.
Egypt hoped that this "positive development" would encourage all parties to "assume the required level of responsibility" to end the war.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan described Hamas' response as a "constructive and significant step toward achieving lasting peace." Additionally, he urged Israel to "immediately stop all its attacks."
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz stated that "peace in Gaza and the release of the hostages are within reach."
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said he was "encouraged" by Hamas' statement. He also urged all parties to "seize the opportunity" to end the conflict.
"Secretary-General Antonio Guterres urges all parties to seize the opportunity to bring the tragic conflict in Gaza to an end," said the spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General, Stephane Dujarric, in a statement, as reported by Anadolu.
"Guterres thanks Qatar and Egypt for their 'invaluable' mediation work," Dujarric said.
"The Secretary-General reiterates his consistent call for an immediate and permanent ceasefire, the immediate and unconditional release of all hostages, and unfettered humanitarian access."
Dujarric emphasized that the UN would support all efforts to achieve these goals to prevent further suffering.
