TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's University of Gadjah Mada (UGM) has urged its students receiving scholarships from the Education Fund Management Institute (LPDP) to uphold exemplary conduct.
This announcement follows the selection of 610 UGM students as recipients of LPDP scholarships for the Odd Semester of 2025.
UGM’s Vice Rector for Student Affairs, Community Development, and Alumni, Arie Sujito, emphasized that LPDP scholarships reflect the state’s responsibility to nurture future leaders. “Students who receive these scholarships should avoid extravagant behavior during their studies,” Arie said on Tuesday, September 30, 2025.
Arie noted that amid the nation’s current social, economic, and political challenges, displaying a lavish or hedonistic lifestyle is inappropriate.
“Such conduct could harm your reputation and dignity. Therefore, students should avoid irrelevant or excessive displays, especially during this critical time,” he added.
He further encouraged scholarship recipients to give back to their communities after completing their studies. “Use the knowledge you gain to contribute meaningfully to your hometowns and society at large,” Arie urged.
Gendro Hartono, Head of LPDP Scholarship Services Division, described the scholarships as a national trust to cultivate high-quality human resources.
He highlighted that LPDP has supported more than 555,776 awardees and alumni to date, with UGM being the largest beneficiary, totaling 6,955 recipients.
Gendro also stressed that scholarship recipients should balance academic performance with personal health, participation in organizational activities, and integrity.
“Focus on your studies, graduate on time, use media responsibly, and maintain your reputation, both as individuals and as LPDP scholars,” he advised.
