TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The badminton tournament, 2025 India Open, will enter its quarter-final round. Two Indonesian representatives will compete at KD Jadhav, New Delhi, on Friday, January 17, 2025.
Two Indonesian players proceed to the quarter-finals: Jonathan Christie from the Men’s singles, Jonatan Christie, and Gregoria Mariska Tunjung, who competes in Women’s singles.
Gregoria qualified for the next round after defeating her Japanese rival Natsuki Nidaira 21-12, 24-22. During her second game, Gregoria was thrown a bit off-tempo, something the athlete felt must improve before her match with Pusarla Sindhu of India.
“I must be calmer while facing my opponent in the quarter-finals, and I hope to win tomorrow [Friday]. I can perform better than today,” said the 2024 Paris Olympics bronze medalist.
“The crowd supporting me here fires me up. Thank you for cheering for me,” she added.
Gregoria and Pusarla have met 13 times, of which the Indonesian athlete rises on top for a total of three times.
Meanwhile, Jonatan Christie qualified for the quarter-finals of the 2025 India Open by eliminating Taiwanese men's singles, Su Li Yang with scores of 21-16, 21-11. He will next meet another Taiwanese athlete, Chun Yi Lin.
