TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The body of the late Supreme Leader of Iran, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has been interred in his final resting place at the Imam Reza Mausoleum complex in Mashhad, northeastern Iran.
Ali Khamenei's funeral took place at the Dar Al-Dhikr prayer hall in the Imam Reza Mausoleum complex on Thursday, July 9, local time, according to ANTARA.
The funeral ceremony of Ali Khamenei, which took place on Friday, July 3, was attended by political officials representing over 45 countries, as well as scholars from over 90 countries.
The procession began at Tehran's Grand Mosque last weekend, where millions of people came to pay their final respects. The procession then continued across Tehran on Monday, July 6.
After Tehran, the procession continued on Tuesday at the Qom and Jamkaran mosques. Then on Wednesday, similar tribute ceremonies took place in Najaf and Karbala, Iraq.
After nearly a week of funeral festivities, millions of mourners participated in the final procession in Mashhad on Thursday, which culminated in a farewell ceremony for the late Ali Khamenei at the Imam Reza Mausoleum.
Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and several members of his family were killed on February 28, 2026, or the first day of the United States-Israel aggression against the Islamic Republic of Iran.
