BMKG: 50 Houses Damaged in East Java's Situbondo Earthquake

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The number of damaged homes due to the magnitude 5.3 earthquake in Situbondo, East Java, climbed to 50, which scattered in four villages. The earthquake occurred on Thursday afternoon, September 25, 2025, and was reported to have damaged dozens of houses in Situbondo.

"The latest data tonight for the number of houses affected by the earthquake that occurred on Thursday afternoon at 04:04 p.m. local time, has climbed to 50 houses," said the Head of the Situbondo Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), Sruwi Hartanto, on late Thursday.

According to him, dozens of these homes are scattered in four villages in the Banyuputih District, with the highest number (25 houses) in Sumberwaru Village. The damage varies, from cracked walls to partially collapsed houses.

Sruwi stated that the number of houses affected by the earthquake is still likely to increase because the local BPBD team is still collecting data.

"We will continue to provide information on the number of earthquake-struck houses," he said.

Previously, the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) reported that the tremor that shook East Java and Bali occurred offshore. Located 40 kilometers northeast of Banyuwangi, East Java, the earthquake had a depth of 12 kilometers.

Based on BMKG's analysis, the shallow earthquake was triggered by active fault activity and did not prompt tsunami threats.
