TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Several FA Cup fourth-round matches have been played. Manchester City and Liverpool secured home wins to secure their place in the fifth round.
Manchester City won 2-0 over Salford City at the Etihad Stadium. The first goal came in the sixth minute from an own goal by Alfie Dorrington. However, Pep Guardiola's team was unable to score after that, only increasing their lead in the 81st minute through Marc Guehi.
Guardiola called the match boring. He openly expressed his displeasure with his team's performance. "We didn't read the space they occupied. With the space in attack, it depends on how they defend, and we didn't read it," he said, as quoted by ESPN.
"That's why it was boring. The only good news is that we're through. That's all," he added.
He rotated his players for this match, making nine changes. The Spanish coach gave the team a full week's rest, something that is rare when they are competing for the Premier League title.
Meanwhile, Liverpool, also playing at home, defeated Brighton 3-0 at Anfield. Curtis Jones opened the scoring in the 42nd minute to give his team a 1-0 halftime lead. Dominik Szoboszlai then scored his team's second goal in the 56th minute. Finally, Mohamed Salah extended the lead with a penalty kick in the 68th minute.
In another match, Aston Villa lost 3-1 to Newcastle United. After taking the lead through Tammy Abraham in the 14th minute, Villa were reduced to ten men after Marco Bizot received a red card at the end of the first half. In the second half, Sandro Tonali scored twice to give Newcastle a 2-1 lead. Two minutes before the end of normal time, Nick Woltermade added another goal.
