TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A total of 46 neighborhood units (RT) were affected by floods in East Jakarta until Sunday, 22 March 2026, at 10:00 AM local time. The floods occurred after heavy rains fell over Jakarta and its surrounding areas beginning on Saturday, March 21, 2026, causing several rivers to overflow.
Head of the Jakarta Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD), Isnawa Adji, mentioned that the water level has risen at several monitoring posts since Saturday evening. "The water levels at Pesanggrahan, Cipinang Hulu, and Krukut Hulu rivers have reached Alert Level 3, while Sunter Hulu is at Alert Level 2," he said in an official statement on Sunday, 22 March 2026.
The floods entirely occurred in East Jakarta, affecting a total of 46 neighborhood units. The area in Ciracas Subdistrict was the worst affected, with 16 neighborhood units submerged. Moreover, the floods were also recorded in Cibubur with 6 neighborhood units, Cipinang Melayu with 6 neighborhood units, Cilangkap with 5 neighborhood units, Dukuh with 5 neighborhood units, and in each of Munjul, Cipinang Muara, Pekayon, Baru, and Ceger. "The water levels at the affected locations range from 30 to 80 centimeters. The floods were triggered by heavy rainfall, causing the overflow of Cipinang River, Cilangkap River, and Sunter River," he added.
Several areas were previously affected but have now receded, including Rawajati, Kebon Baru, Pejaten Timur, Jagakarsa, Tanjung Barat, and parts of Munjul, Dukuh, Tengah, and Cibubur.
The floods also forced residents to evacuate. BPBD recorded that 696 individuals from 201 families sought refuge in seven locations. The evacuation sites include Al Muminin Mosque in Kramat Jati, Al Mutaqin Mosque in Pasar Rebo, the New Subdistrict Office, as well as several mosques and public facilities in Ciracas.
Adji stated that BPBD officers, along with the Water Resources Agency, the Highways Agency, and the Fire and Rescue Agency, were deployed to drain the floods and ensure that the water channels functioned properly. BPBD aims to expedite the recovery from the floods.
