TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's State Secretary Minister, Prasetyo Hadi, said that many topics were discussed during the March 19, 2026, meeting between President Prabowo Subianto and Indonesia's 5th president, Megawati Soekarnoputri. "There were many discussions held during the nearly two-hour meeting," Prasetyo said at the Jakarta Presidential Palace on Saturday, March 21, 2026.
According to Prasetyo, Prabowo and Megawati exchanged views on various issues. During the meeting, Megawati shared her experiences as a national leader. "Because in any case, Ibu Mega has also been a vice president and has also been a president," said Prasetyo.
The Gerindra Party politician confirmed that one of the topics discussed was related to recent geopolitical tensions, though he did not specify which ones. Prasetyo stated that each leadership period faces different challenges. "As a leader, it is very good to be able to provide input and share experiences for the progress of our nation and country," he said.
President Prabowo met with the Chair of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP), Megawati Soekarnoputri, at the Jakarta Presidential Palace towards the end of Ramadan, on Thursday, March 19, 2026. In one of the photos shared by the Cabinet Secretariat, Prabowo was seen holding hands with Megawati. Prabowo was seen guiding the woman who was his running mate in the 2009 presidential election as they ascended the stairs of the Merdeka Palace.
Megawati wore a batik-patterned outfit with a blue motif during the meeting. Prabowo, on the other hand, wore a khaki safari suit complete with a presidential pin.
During her visit, Megawati was accompanied by her daughter, who is also the House Speaker, Puan Maharani. Meanwhile, Prabowo was accompanied by the Secretary General of the Gerindra Party and Deputy House Speaker, Sufmi Dasco Ahmad. Didit Hediprasetyo, Prabowo's son, also attended the meeting with his father.
The Secretary General of PDIP, Hasto Kristiyanto, said that the meeting between Prabowo and Megawati was a friendly reunion of old friends. According to Hasto, Megawati and Prabowo discussed various topics, ranging from domestic issues to geopolitics. Hasto said that Megawati shared her experiences as president with Prabowo.
Hasto said that Megawati is experienced in crisis resolution. During discussions with Prabowo, he emphasized the importance of a sense of priority and urgency in government.
