
TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President of Germany, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, has arrived in Jakarta. The German presidential plane landed at Halim Perdanakusuma Airbase, East Jakarta, on Monday morning, June 15, 2026.
Several Indonesian officials welcomed Steinmeier's arrival. Among them were Minister of Health Budi Gunadi Sadikin and the Indonesian Ambassador to Germany Abdul Kadir Jailani. In addition, the German Ambassador to Indonesia Ralf Beste also attended to welcome his President's arrival.
This visit marks President Steinmeier's first visit to Indonesia during President Prabowo Subianto's administration. The president of the Federal Republic of Germany will visit for one day and depart Indonesia on Monday evening.
After the welcoming procession at Halim, President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and First Lady Elke Budenbender are scheduled to visit the Presidential Palace in Jakarta. While there, they will attend a series of events, including a meeting with President Prabowo.
Steinmeier will meet with President Prabowo at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta. Additionally, he is scheduled to visit the Istiqlal Mosque and Jakarta Cathedral, passing through the Silaturahmi Tunnel, which connects the two places of worship.
The German Ambassador to Indonesia Ralf Beste stated that the visit of the German President to Jakarta conveys a message that Germany is a strong and reliable partner for Indonesia. Beste expressed that Steinmeier's visit is motivated by Germany's desire to strengthen partnerships with strong developing countries such as Indonesia.
According to Ambassador Beste, Steinmeier will also have meetings and discussions with the Indonesian intellectual and research community during his visit on Monday. "In those meetings, they will discuss how Indonesia views current geostrategic changes in the world," he said.
During the visit to Indonesia, the President of Germany will be accompanied by a business delegation representing various sectors in Germany, such as logistics, mobility, industrial equipment, as well as representatives from cultural, science, and technology sectors.
The German Ambassador also expressed hope that President Prabowo can reciprocate President Steinmeier's visit by making a return visit to Germany. "We hope that the visit of the German President can be reciprocated in the future," said Beste.
