Indonesia Condemns Israeli Firing on Diplomats, Cites Impunity

7 hours ago 11

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has called on the global community to put more pressure on Israel. This call comes after Israeli forces shot at diplomats on an official visit to the city of Jenin, located in the West Bank, Palestine, on Wednesday, May 21, 2025. The Ministry sees this incident as clear proof that Israel has long ignored international laws.

In an official statement posted on Twitter today, Friday, May 23, 2025, the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs vehemently condemned the shooting, underscoring a continuous pattern of international law violations.

"This is yet another unacceptable display of complete disregard for international law by Israel—an injustice Palestinians endure daily in their homeland," the Ministry's statement read.

Indonesia asserts that Israel's persistent disregard for international law is a direct consequence of the impunity it has enjoyed for years. The Ministry believes the international community's lack of firm repercussions has enabled Israel to continue its actions that violate diplomatic norms and international law.

The Indonesian government emphasizes that the targeting of diplomats on official missions is a grave breach of international diplomatic conventions and signals a troubling escalation of violence in the region.

Through its statement, Indonesia calls upon the international community to undertake concrete steps by increasing pressure on Israel. Jakarta's three principal demands are for Israel to adhere to international law, cease all violence, and end its illegal occupation in Palestine.

This firm stance by Indonesia aligns with the country's consistent commitment to supporting Palestinian independence and upholding international law in the region.
