Indonesia Condemns Israeli Strikes on Indonesian Hospital in Gaza's North

6 hours ago 8

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia strongly condemns the Israeli strikes targeting the Indonesian Hospital in Northern Gaza, stating it was a grave violation of international law, international humanitarian law, and human rights.

The Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday, May 20, 2025 urged the UN Security Council and the international community to take firm action to uphold international law and stop Israeli onslaught in the region.

In its statement, Indonesia also emphasized that Israel's continued attacks across the Gaza Strip, including on Indonesian health facilities, are unjustified and require an immediate international response.

Indonesia emphasized the importance of a permanent ceasefire and the unhindered delivery of humanitarian aid to alleviate the suffering of Palestinian civilians in Gaza affected by Israel's genocidal war.

Indonesian Hospital Director Dr. Marwan al-Sultan on Sunday said Israeli forces “directly targeted” and surrounded the facility, trapping around 55 people inside.

In its latest assault on Gaza's shattered healthcare system, Israel once again targeted the Indonesian Hospital in northern Gaza, this time with drones, while its forces carried out ground attacks north and south of the bombarded territory.

Health officials said on Sunday night that fighting around the Indonesian Hospital in Gaza and the Israeli military “siege” forced the hospital to shut down.

It was the main medical facility in the north after Israeli airstrikes last year also forced Kamal Adwan and Beit Hanoon hospitals to stop providing health services.

“There is a direct targeting of the hospital including the intensive care unit,” the hospital's director, Dr. Marwan al-Sultan, said in a statement quoted from Al Jazeera, adding that no one could reach the facility, which has about 30 patients and 15 medical staff inside.

Israel has repeatedly targeted hospitals during the 19-month war in Gaza. UN-backed human rights groups and experts have accused Israel of systematically destroying Gaza's healthcare system.

With the “shutdown of the Indonesian Hospital, all public hospitals in the North Gaza Governorate are now out of service,” the Gaza Health Ministry said.
