TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia's Ministry of Communication and Digital (Komdigi) has requested information from two global digital platforms, Meta and Google. The examination relates to alleged violations of user protection obligations according to Government Regulation No. 17 of 2025 concerning the Organization of Electronic Systems in Child Protection (PP Tunas).

The examination took place at the Ministry of Komdigi office in Central Jakarta on Tuesday, 7 April 2026. During the process, Meta underwent examination and signed a report. Meanwhile, Google complied with the second summons and underwent examination on the same day.

The Director General of Digital Space Supervision, Alexander Sabar, stated that the Ministry of Komdigi's team presented 29 questions to delve into the alleged violations of prevailing regulations, especially regarding the platform's obligations to protect the users. "The results of the examination of these two platforms will be further investigated," he said in an official statement on Tuesday.

He emphasized that this examination is part of the government's active supervision to ensure that digital platforms fulfill their responsibilities to the public. "Our focus is on Article 30 of the Ministerial Regulation regarding the implementation of PP Tunas," said Alexander, as quoted from the Antara report.

Furthermore, the Ministry of Komdigi has not disclosed the results of the examination because further investigation is needed. According to Alexander, Meta has promised to provide additional documents to complete the examination process.

For information, Meta is the parent company of digital platforms such as WhatsApp, Threads, Facebook, and Instagram. Meanwhile, Google is the parent company of the YouTube platform.

These digital platforms, according to the Ministry of Komdigi's Regulation No. 9 of 2026, are categorized as high-risk platforms and are obliged to restrict children's access to their services. However, even though the regulation is in effect, not all platforms have fulfilled their obligation to restrict children's access.
