TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia is pushing for a strengthened cooperation with Australia in the food and infrastructure sectors through the Indonesia–Australia Business Summit (IABS) for Indonesia Updates 2026. This meeting was part of the efforts to bolster strategic economic partnerships between both countries while offering investments in priority sectors.

In an official statement in Jakarta on Thursday, Deputy Minister of Investment and Downstreaming/Deputy Head of the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM), Todotua Pasaribu, said Indonesia is committed to maintaining the economic growth momentum by boosting investments.

According to him, Indonesia is targeting 8 percent growth through Prabowo Subianto's Astacita agenda, which focuses on food security, energy security, and industrial downstreaming.

At the forum held in Sydney, Australia, on June 30, Todotua also stated that the Indonesian government is targeting investment realization of Rp3,414 trillion by 2029. Thus, the government is open to investment opportunities in priority sectors: renewable energy, industrial downstreaming, food security, semiconductors, export-oriented manufacturing, healthcare, the Nusantara capital city project, education, and the digital economy.

"Indonesia and Australia are at an opportune moment to strengthen their investment partnership. Both countries have complementary economies, supported by the increasingly mature IA-CEPA framework," he said.

According to him, Indonesia continues to reform the investment climate by simplifying permits, providing fiscal and non-fiscal incentives, and developing industrial and special economic zones.

Therefore, he invited Australian investors to enter Indonesia and help to strenghten the country's infrastructure and food security.

"We invite Australian investors to be part of a new chapter in Indonesia's economic growth through investments focused on downstreaming, infrastructure, food security, energy transition, and the green economy," Todotua added.

The event also saw the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI) and the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) concerning cooperation in trade, investment, and the development of business relations between the two countries.
